![]() But to tell the truth, I haven’t really felt a strong desire to go back to Sonic Mania very much since it came out. That’s kind of vague and wishy-washy, I know. That’s objective truth.Īnd yet, even as the dust settled and I had years to come down and digest my feelings about Sonic Mania, I… still think I was right? Maybe not about every individual nitpick, like that whole thing about the Drop Dash being unintuitive probably wasn’t worth dedicating time to, but I stand by… some of what I said. I was and still am genuinely proud they got the opportunity to do that, and that it was so well received that it literally became the highest critically-rated Sonic game since 1994. I was the worst kind of nerd, but in my defense, there were a lot of emotions to untangle. You could even say that I let the fantasy run away with me a bit. Still, I couldn’t help but look at the game with a, “Well that’s not how I would have done it” sort of eye. We posted on the same forum together for a few years when we were kids. But was I really one of their colleagues? Not really. Instead of looking at Sonic Mania like a consumer, I looked at it like a colleague. You could even make an argument that it was maybe a tiny bit parasocial. I’d played the games they had made leading up to Sonic Mania (both official and unofficial) and I was close enough to have an idea of what their good and bad habits were. But the general point I’m trying to get across is that I “knew” these guys, or at least, I knew them better than I knew most game developers. I don’t think anyone of them were ever my friends by most definitions, and I’m pretty sure at least a couple of them probably don’t like me nowadays (even before my nitpicky video reviews). I saw a lot of what would become the Mania team on the forums back then, some of which I was closer to than others. ![]() Most if not all of Sonic Mania’s development team came from the Sonic Fan Games HQ, a website that was my home on the internet as a teenager a very, very long time ago. I’ve already said a lot about this game, but with the aid of hindsight, maybe some hidden truth has revealed itself? The world loved Sonic Mania, and I… sort of didn’t? It’s been easy to think that there’s something wrong with me, like maybe I fell into a trap of being too picky about the game, given how much of a sore thumb I can feel like. I thought I could write an article to sort of clear the air about how I feel about Sonic Mania, because there’s a part of me that has felt a little guilty about how those videos turned out. It’s weird looking back on it, but a lot of things are weird about Sonic Mania to me, and for largely personal reasons. You can also watch my two part Sonic Mania video review, if that suits your fancy. Mod support also isn’t ready for the Epic Game Store version just yet, but I’ve heard they might be working on a fix for that, so stay tuned, I suppose. It’s worth mentioning that I personally haven’t tried to do this, because my current install of Sonic Mania is on Steam, so your mileage may vary. This means that once you download the Epic Game Store client (click “Get Epic Games”) and use it to install Sonic Mania, you can close and maybe even uninstall the client entirely and still be able to play Sonic Mania without it. My understanding is that, with a few exceptions, most games on Epic Game Store are DRM free. Once you do that, it’ll be in your account forever (theoretically). All you have to do is register for an Epic Games account and claim the game. ![]() I’m sure the whole entire internet has told you this by this point, but if you don’t know, Sonic Mania is currently free to own for the next week on the Epic Game Store.

Sure, dumb comedies are a constant in American cinema, but comedies that truly revel in their dumbness really don’t get made often these days. So begins one of the most brilliantly stupid comedies ever. ![]() But it is a bit hard to imagine many contemporary films opening with a plainly white derelict sitting in a stairwell and proclaiming ‘I was born a poor Black child’. When people claim that certain movies ‘couldn’t get made today’, it’s usually just anti-woke grumbling from humourless dolts. There's something I want to say that's always been very difficult for me to say: ‘I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit, and on the slitted sheet I sit’. But Groundhog Day remains the gold standard by taking a more lighthearted approach that nonetheless manages to deliver a poignant message about the things that really matter. Enough movies and TV shows ( Palm Springs and Russian Doll, to name two) have lifted the time-loop concept to explore similar themes, usually with a heavier hand. Bill Murray gives his most iconic performance as a grumpy, self-absorbed Pennsylvania weatherman who, by some inexplicable cosmic glitch, is forced to live the same day over and over and over and over (and over and over and over and over…) until he learns to look outside himself and let a little love into his heart. It’s not too late to correct that mistake, in the same way poor Phil Connors discovers that it’s not too late to become a better person – in fact, he’s got all the time in the world. Worldwide, however, the words ‘Groundhog Day’ are best known as shorthand for history repeating itself – in fact, there’s probably a not-insignificant population who know the phrase but not the film. The faux-meteorological American tradition known as Groundhog Day predates the movie Groundhog Day by a good century and a half. ‘I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.’ Spinal Tap: for those about to rock, we salute you. Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer would keep gigging as Spinal Tap for three decades – proof that they were so much more than just a joke band in a funny movie. It also, lest we forget, defined an entire genre, accidentally inventing everything from The Office to The Blair Witch Project (not to mention lead axe-man Christopher Guest's entire subsequent career). these ones go to eleven') and some of the meatiest metal melodies this side of Bon Scott-era AC/DC, this is simply a perfect film: from the first chord of 'Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight' to the very final line ('I dunno, what are the hours?'), there's literally nothing about it that could be improved. There is usually more potential in the stock front and rear brakes that you already have on the vehicle, so the Hydro-Boost is the logical way to go for consistent braking power if you wanted to put bigger front and rear brakes on, or to make your stock brakes produce. The power steering pump is belt driven, rather than electric motor driven like a vacuum pump, so it is more reliable, and the Hydro-Boost piggybacks off of this by being added into the high pressure line on its way from the pump to the steering unit. You can spend a lot of money on calipers that are advertised as "big", but if they are bigger than your stock brakes, they will be more demanding for pressure and volume, so they won't make an improvement unless you have a more powerful brake booster and master cylinder combination to increase the line pressure and volume that they will receive. ![]() ![]() Going down in size on the master cylinder bore can cheat to spike up the pressure to the caliper pistons, but it reduces the volume of fluid the caliper piston bores get, giving you an incredibly long pedal throw. The feedback from customers is that vacuum pumps are loud, don't keep up in traffic, burn out too quickly, stock replacements are hard to find after 10-20 years, and aftermarket ones are of low build quality. The Hydro-Boost should provide an impressive increase in power with your stock pump, but power steering pumps can be modified as well to produce more pressure, which gives you room to get even more braking and steering assist, when using the Hydro-Boost, if you are left wanting more. The Hydro-Boost is more powerful overall, and does not depend on manifold vacuum, so it is great for vehicles that have a high performance engine, diesel engine, tall tires, tow a trailer, or are just heavy. Big camshafts and other engine modifications rob vacuum, and diesels don't make vacuum at all. Most 5 lug and larger vehicles produce more than a 1,000 pounds of pressure in the power steering system, the Hydro-Boost taps into this rather than the 15 pounds of vacuum that you hope to get from your engine manifold. Below is a guide for making your selections, along with pictures of the items listed in the drop down menus. For a full range of brake fittings and plumbing solutions, please see the motorsport braking section.Use the drop down menus to make selections on the unit finish, master cylinder, and hydraulic hose set to put together your kit. Some hydraulic hand brakes are supplied with or without master cylinders. Certain hand brakes also include a locking mechanism for when the hand brake is used for securing the vehicle in place. The advantage of the vertical lever is that it is able to be mounted closer to the reach of the driver, allowing a quick application of the handbrake when needed and keeping the hands closer to the wheel at all times. The range of hydraulic handbrakes available here at Demon Tweeks includes options for a conventional horizontal operating lever or a vertical lever. This means that the hand brake provides a more positive feel for the amount of pressure being applied as well as being more consistent without the potential for stretching the cable and therefore losing its capability to apply the brake. Whereas most road cars are fitted with cable operated hand brakes, these hydraulically operated alternatives are better suited for motorsport competition due to being plumbed directly into the braking hydraulics. Hand brakes are an important component in rallying and are frequently used in drifting and autotests in order to carry more speed through corners and to have an extra level of control over the balance of the car. ![]() For example, from PowerShell/CMD, enter: wsl -s Debian to set the default distribution to Debian.
